Job description About the Job

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic web designer and front end web developer to join our creative team in Central London.
This is a temp to permanent role 22-28k depending on experience.

Software company with expanding design requirements, needs experienced front-end designer / developer to assist the design team. You will work closely with, and report to, the creative lead. This is a creative role and as such will require the successful candidate the opportunity to work on various projects with varying subject matter for different industry sectors, brief can include websites, marketing collateral and web apps for b2b and financial through to school and consumer facing projects.

Key tasks

The role will be working within the design team, initially taking creative concepts and look & feels and turning them into great looking web prototypes, as well as producing final assets to be handed over to the development teams. There will be scope to add your own design flair to on-going and new projects as required, as well as being eventually able to approve final designs according to the project requirements for the project they have been assigned to.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to be an expert in their field up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies.

Required Experience

Professional experience required : 1-2 years in a commercial environment.

• experience building web prototypes and page templates based on supplied designs (Hand-coding modern, accessible, cross-browser compatible HTML/CSS) Bring with you a case study of where you have done this and be ready to explain what you added to the project that made it better or added something positive that the original designer was not expecting
• Excellent knowledge of web standards (W3C guidelines), usability and accessibility
• Awareness of browser quirks (e.g., IE6) and techniques to work around them
• Integrating JavaScript libraries and working with library API's
• An online portfolio of your work is essential

To test these skills you will be asked to demonstrate your knowledge with a one hour Photoshop and HTML test in your first interview.

Required Skills

• A degree level qualification is essential in Web Design or similar
• HTML and CSS to a high standard
• Highly proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop)
• jQuery (for demoing/prototyping, not necessarily for production)

Advantages

• Knowledge of a web scripting language such as PHP
• Google Analytics
• Basic Flash and Javascript would also be an advantage
• iPhone / web app development experience

Creative design and good web development skills must be shown in the portfolio, as well as an attention to detail.

• A team player, good at taking direction and also able to work independently
• Strong, proven, design skills
• Be hands-on and a self-starter
• Attentive to detail and design finish
• Organised personality with a strong drive towards usability standards and functionality
• Able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical staff
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage their time across multiple projects
