Job title Chief magazine editor
Job description Nature, the leading international science publication, is looking for an outstanding individual to take responsibility for all content delivered by its multinational team of journalists and commissioning editors. The Chief Magazine Editor will have the responsibility to ensure that Nature delivers high-impact news, analysis and comment on science and the issues that surround it, on a daily and weekly basis, in print and in all online formats.

The magazine component of Nature, the flagship publication of the Nature Publishing Group, is developing in many ways. Subscriptions and online readerships continue to grow, and multimedia and mobile technologies are providing new opportunities. The publishers are investing in all of these aspects, having invested in new editorial staff positions over recent years.

The Chief Magazine Editor is a new position created to ensure due focus on the fulfilment of these opportunities, through editorial vision, planning and coordination, and also through the inspiration and management of the leaders of editorial teams. Reporting to Nature's Editor-in-Chief, Philip Campbell, and based in London, this editor will take overall responsibility specifically for News, News Features, Opinion sections, 'News and Views' and NatureJobs.

Suitable candidates will have demonstrable ability to earn the respect of an award-winning international team of writers and editors. They will have an outstanding track record in the communication of science and the issues that surround it. They will have the creativity and focus required to increase the already strong loyalty of a critically minded readership of active researchers across all the sciences, policy makers and others seriously interested in science.

Applicants should supply their CV and a one-sheet statement of what they would wish to achieve at Nature, quoting reference number NPG/033/09 to Paul Riley, HR Adviser at londonrecruitment@macmillan.co.uk
